Football Recap: Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy Takes Down Chatham Central in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy walked away with it. They strolled past the Chatham Central Bears with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 30-12. That 18 point margin sets a new team best for the Phoenix this season.

Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy found their leader in freshman Jamari Wilson, who rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also threw for 130 yards and one TD. Wilson didn't just play on offense: he also made three total tackles and defended one pass. 100 of Wilson's passing yards were hauled in by Tim Smith, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 290 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 170 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

Chatham Central's loss came despite strong showings from Nicholas Glover and Carson Jackson. Glover gained 170 total yards and a touchdown, while Jackson picked up 52 receiving yards and one score.

Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-8 record this season. As for Chatham Central, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Looking ahead, Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy will take on Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chatham Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
