Baseball Recap: Gulf Coast HEAT Sets Scoring Season-High Against Central Florida Christian Academy

Gulf Coast HEAT's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top against the Central Florida Christian Academy Eagles by a score of 15-10. Gulf Coast HEAT's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Westin Lacey made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Gulf Coast HEAT is 2-1 when Lacey posts two or more stolen bases, but 0-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Travis Beiler, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Oliver Ekstrom, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Gulf Coast HEAT always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Gulf Coast HEAT's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-7. As for Central Florida Christian Academy, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gulf Coast HEAT will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Ruskin Christian at 3:00 p.m. on March 24th. As for Central Florida Christian Academy, they will square off against Jones at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Florida Christian Academy is facing Jones at the right time seeing as Jones is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
