Football Recap: Mt. Zion Braves vs. Carterville Lions
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mt. Zion had no problem doing just that on Friday. Everything went their way against the Carterville Lions as they made off with a 42-21 victory. Considering the Braves have won five matches by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
A big part of Mt. Zion's win came down to the chemistry between Keller Stocks and his top target Jacob Harvey. Stocks threw for 360 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt while Harvey picked up 160 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Harvey a new career-high in rushing yards (16). Mt. Zion also got help from Brayden Trimble, who showed off his sure hands for 110 receiving yards.
Mt. Zion wouldn't let Carterville keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Trimble, JC Anderson, and Kaden Becker picked up one apiece.
Mt. Zion pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Carterville, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-3 record.
Mt. Zion will face off against Peoria Notre Dame at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Zion is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 28.1 points per game this season. Carterville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
