Lydia Berent made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Beavers, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Cardinal Gibbons kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Coral Springs Charter had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 15-0 victory. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 contests by six runs or more this season.
Sophia Bertorelli looked comfortable as she tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Coral Springs Charter got a massive performance out of Jazzy Chung, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Rodriguez, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
Cardinal Gibbons' record is now 21-4. As for Coral Springs Charter, their record now sits at 20-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cardinal Gibbons has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Coral Springs Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Cardinal Gibbons suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Coral Springs Charter in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Chiefs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
