Basketball Recap: Victoria Guevara's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Washington Latin Public Charter School over Don Bosco Cristo Rey

Washington Latin Public Charter School lost against Don Bosco Cristo Rey back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Washington Latin Public Charter School Lions fell just short of the Don Bosco Cristo Rey Wolfpack by a score of 28-26. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Lions came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 33rd in District of Columbia, while the Wolfpack are ranked 241st in Maryland).

Washington Latin Public Charter School lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Victoria Guevara, who posted 12 points. That was a full 46.2% of Washington Latin Public Charter School's points, marking the ninth time in a row Guevara has earned more than a third of the team's points. Sarah Schifferle was another key player, putting up eight points.

It was another big night for Maya Byrd-Gross, who had 20 points for Don Bosco Cristo Rey. Byrd-Gross' big performance that afternoon made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points.

Washington Latin Public Charter School has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. Don Bosco Cristo Rey now has a winning record of 8-7.

Washington Latin Public Charter School has already played their next contest, a 39-7 win against Washington Waldorf on the 24th. Don Bosco Cristo Rey does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
