Bear River has won five straight games at home, while West Field has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Bears will welcome the Longhorns at 3:30 p.m. Bear River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Bear River got the win against Sky View by a conclusive 16-5. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won 13 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Luci Roche, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Paycie Richards was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Roche wasn't the only one making solid contact: Bear River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, West Field faced Ridgeline in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Longhorns fell just short of the Riverhawks by a score of 9-8. The Longhorns' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Brylee Leatherwood was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Ellie Koford, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Bear River's victory bumped their record up to 18-1. As for West Field, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Bear River has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. However, it's not like West Field struggles in that department as they've averaged .492. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bear River beat West Field 9-6 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Longhorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
