Basketball Recap: Middletown Middies vs. Edgewood Cougars

The Middletown Middies have not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They took down Edgewood 60-43 on Saturday. Middletown pushed the score to 47-24 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cougars cut but never quite recovered from.

Drew Swartzel and Rylie Homan certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Swartzel dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Homan scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Homan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Maddy Judd, who scored nine points.

Middletown is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-13 record this season. As for Edgewood, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-9.

Middletown will head out on the road to square off against the Aviators at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Edgewood, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Knights at 1:15 p.m. on February 5th. Kings presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Cougars in Ohio (the Knights are ranked 53rd, while the Cougars are ranked 243rd).
