Baseball Recap: Wagner Comes Up Short

Wagner came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-5 to the Tivy Antlers. The Thunderbirds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Antlers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Ryan Self put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Self wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ryder Brill, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave Brill a new career-high.

Wagner has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. Tivy moved to 8-14 with that win, which also ended their nine-game losing streak.

While Wagner had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
