Mesick and Pentwater are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Mesick Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Pentwater Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mesick has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Pentwater will come in with seven straight wins.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 64-28, which was the final score in Mesick's tilt against Marion on Tuesday. The game marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Mesick saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jackson Abraham posted 16 points.

Meanwhile, Pentwater was able to grind out a solid victory over Shelby on Tuesday, taking the game 70-57. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while the Tigers are ranked 675th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pentwater's win came from a few key players Mesick will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mikey Carlson, who dropped a double-double with 27 points and 15 boards. Those 27 points gave him a new career-high. Trey Johnson was another key player, putting up 17 points and eight rebounds.

Pentwater smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Pentwater pushed their record up to 17-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.5 points over those games. As for Mesick, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.

Mesick was dealt a bruising 60-33 loss at the hands of Pentwater in their previous meeting back in January. Can Mesick avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
