Basketball Recap: Vance County Extends Home Winning Streak to 13

Vance County put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against the South Granville Vikings by a score of 47-39. That's more bragging rights for the Vipers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Vance County found their leader in sophomore Destiny Timberlake, who posted 14 points. Nicola Thompson was another key player, putting up nine points.

Alayah Flowers and Piper Van-Ningen certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Flowers went 5 of 10 on her way to 12 points and six steals, while Van-Ningen put up six points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That's the most steals Van-Ningen has posted since back in December of 2023.

Vance County's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for South Granville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Vance County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 73-33 victory against Warren County on the 20th. South Granville has also already played their next match, a 46-25 win against Northern Durham on the 20th.
