Boardman barely beat West Branch the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Warriors on Monday. Considering the Spartans have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Gabi Sferra was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned runs off ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Freeborough, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Mia Duble also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Boardman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Branch only posted a batting average of .357.
Boardman is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for West Branch, their loss dropped their record down to 17-7.
