Baseball Recap: Wyomissing Comes Up Short

Wyomissing fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Oley Valley on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lynx by a score of 5-4. The Spartans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Lynx from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Chase Bailey was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Ryan Graham made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Birkley Ziegler, who scored a run while going 4-for-5.

Wyomissing's record is now 6-3. As for Oley Valley, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2.

Wyomissing and Oley Valley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Spartans (ranked 130th) will meet Brandywine Heights Area (ranked 484th) at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Oley Valley will square off against Tulpehocken at 4:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (91 vs. 244). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lynx 2.2, the Trojans 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
