Basketball Game Preview: Oak Hill Golden Eagles vs. Alexandria-Monroe Tigers

Oak Hill is on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Alexandria-Monroe is on a nine-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Oak Hill Golden Eagles will host the Alexandria-Monroe Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Oak Hill's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Alexandria-Monroe's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Last Tuesday, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Oak Hill made off with a 42-41 win over Marion. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while the Giants are ranked 248th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Oak Hill to victory, but perhaps none more so than Morgan Cates, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 boards. Those 15 rebounds gave Cates a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Liz Godfrey, who posted ten points and three steals.

Oak Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They are a perfect 5-0 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Meanwhile, everything went Alexandria-Monroe's way against Mississinewa on Wednesday as Alexandria-Monroe made off with a 60-34 victory. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Alexandria-Monroe's win bumped their record up to 20-1. As for Oak Hill, their victory bumped their record up to 19-1.

Things could have been worse for Oak Hill, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-34 loss to Alexandria-Monroe in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Alexandria-Monroe's Jacklynn Hosier, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 24 points along with eight boards and eight steals.
