Softball Game Preview: Pelahatchie Chiefs vs. Puckett Wolves

Pelahatchie hasn't had much luck against Puckett recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Pelahatchie will venture away from home to challenge Puckett at 6:00 p.m. Pelahatchie has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Pelahatchie lost 15-8 to Morton on Thursday. The Chiefs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Khloe McLaurin was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Puckett hadn't beaten Pisgah on the road since March 6, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. Puckett walked away with a 6-2 win over Pisgah.

Lila Murphy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brooke Shivers, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Aubree Thomas, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Puckett is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. Pelahatchie's loss dropped their record down to 9-3.

Pelahatchie's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. Pelahatchie has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Puckett, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Pelahatchie continue to outrun the ball?

Pelahatchie might still be hurting after the 18-1 defeat they got from Puckett in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Pelahatchie avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
