Softball Game Preview: Maplewood Rockets vs. Mathews Mustangs

Maplewood hasn't had much luck against Mathews recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Rockets will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. Maplewood will be looking to extend their current 18-game winning streak.

Maplewood's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Harding with a sharp 12-0 victory. The Rockets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Addison Marker made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 13 games.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Claire Urchek, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Kya Dunbar was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Mathews never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Windham on Monday. They came out on top against the Bombers by a score of 12-9.

Maplewood's win bumped their record up to 18-1. As for Mathews, the victory got them back to even at 10-10.
