Softball Recap: Gladstone Comes Up Short

Gladstone fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Banks on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Braves by a score of 3-2. The Gladiators were not able to make up for their loss to the Braves from their previous meeting back in March of 2022.

Ashlynne Franssen put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over 9.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than 14 strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

Gladstone has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Banks, they moved to 3-4-1 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Gladstone and Banks will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Gladiators are set to take on their familiar foe Madras at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Banks will face off against rival Corbett at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
