Baseball Game Preview: Cherokee Trail Cougars vs. Boulder Creek Jaguars

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Cherokee Trail Cougars face off against Boulder Creek Jaguars at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Cherokee Trail will be strutting in after a win while Boulder Creek will be coming in after a loss.

While Cherokee Trail's victory against Eaglecrest wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Cherokee Trail's pitchers stepped up to hand Eaglecrest a 1-0 shutout on Friday. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Raptors recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Ethin Woltz looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

On the hitting side, Cherokee Trail saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon McWilliams, who went 2-for-4 with one double. Those two hits gave McWilliams a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Boulder Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Notre Dame Prep.

Chase Gilmore was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Boulder Creek's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Cherokee Trail, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Cherokee Trail skirted past Boulder Creek 12-11 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Does Cherokee Trail have another victory up their sleeve, or will Boulder Creek turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
