The Northeastern Knights will challenge the Cowan Blackhawks at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Northeastern is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Northeastern fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Eastern Hancock on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Royals by a score of 6-5. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Royals recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Isabella Peed was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Cowan made sure to put some runs up on the board against Wapahani on Thursday. The Blackhawks blew past the Raiders 14-2.
Savannah Hall made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hall was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cowan let Bryleigh Hiatt and Madison Norris run wild. Hiatt went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Norris went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Hiatt a new career-high. Taylor Young was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Cowan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Northeastern's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Cowan, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.
Cowan's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Northeastern has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Cowan, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 strikeouts. Will Northeastern keep running through batters, or will the Blackhawks buck the trend?
Northeastern skirted past Cowan 3-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blackhawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
