Baseball Game Preview: Lewis County Panthers vs. Wayne County Wildcats

The Lewis County Panthers will square off against the Wayne County Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lewis County will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Loretto, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Panthers came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 6-1 on Tuesday.

The team relied heavily on Fletch Kelsey, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one triple. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Brycen McDonald was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Kelsey wasn't the only one making solid contact: Lewis County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Loretto only managed three hits.

Meanwhile, Wayne County posted their closest victory since April 30, 2024 on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Perry County 3-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Brady Stooksberry was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Lewis County's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Wayne County, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.

Lewis County took their victory against Wayne County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
