Softball Game Preview: Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders vs. Benilde-St. Margaret's Red Knights

The Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the Benilde-St. Margaret's Red Knights at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Cretin-Derham Hall's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Benilde-St. Margaret's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Cretin-Derham Hall will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Irondale on Friday. The Raiders put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 10-0 win. Considering the Raiders have won four games by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Allie Castro, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Izzy Matzek also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Cretin-Derham Hall hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Benilde-St. Margaret's hadn't done well against Chanhassen recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Red Knights narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Storm 6-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Red Knights.

Brooklyn Riley was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Murry, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.

Benilde-St. Margaret's record is now 6-8. As for Cretin-Derham Hall, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-6.

Cretin-Derham Hall took their victory against Benilde-St. Margaret's in their previous matchup back in June of 2024 by a conclusive 8-0 score. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Red Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
