Emerson gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Saddle Brook Falcons. That's more bragging rights for the Cavaliers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Sophia Centeno spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Joanna Vigna, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Demi Graham, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Emerson and Saddle Brook will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Cavaliers are set to face off against their familiar foe Waldwick at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Saddle Brook will take on rival Palisades Park at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
