Soccer Game Preview: Nelson County vs. Glenvar

The Nelson County Governors will face off against the Glenvar Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few goals on average (Nelson County 0.2, Glenvar 0.4) so any goals scored will be well earned.

Nelson County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They walked away with a 3-1 win over Liberty.

Meanwhile, Auburn kept up with Glenvar until halftime on Wednesday, but afterwards: not so much. The Highlanders' defense stepped up to hand the Eagles a 4-0 shutout. Glenvar might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 contests by four goals or more this season.

The victory was the third in a row for Glenvar, bringing their record up to 18-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those three matchups. As for Nelson County, their victory bumped their record up to 18-0.

Nelson County suffered a grim 5-0 defeat to Glenvar when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Can the Governors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
