Basketball Recap: Make It Two in a Row for Spartanburg

Catawba Ridge came into Monday's game looking for another win against Spartanburg, but De'Asia Bridges wouldn't allow it. The Spartanburg Vikings secured a 48-42 W over the Catawba Ridge Copperheads on Monday thanks in part to Bridges, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. She has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last four times she's played.

Another player making a difference was Laura Nance Pickens, who posted four points and five rebounds. What's more, she also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2023.

Catawba Ridge lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Brooks Dority, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Dority is becoming a predictor of Catawba Ridge's success: when she posts at least eight boards the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when she doesn't). Addison Cunningham was another key player, putting up nine points and five assists.

The win made it two in a row for Spartanburg and bumps their season record up to 3-5. As for Catawba Ridge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Spartanburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 54-50 victory against T.L. Hanna on the 18th. As for Catawba Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-36 loss against Chapin on the 18th.
