Basketball Recap: Elkhorn South Storm vs. Lincoln Northeast Rockets
The Elkhorn South Storm struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Lincoln Northeast Rockets had 14 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Elkhorn South suffered a tough 67-47 defeat at the hands of the Rockets. Elkhorn South has struggled against the Rockets recently, as their game on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Storm players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alexa Eddie, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Eddie has scored all season. Rowan Swartz was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Doneelah Washington was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 20 rebounds for Lincoln Northeast. Washington is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Yelaniya Bradley, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Elkhorn South has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Lincoln Northeast, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
Elkhorn South will head out on the road to face off against the Griffins at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lincoln Northeast, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Bearcats at 2:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Kearney will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Rockets are ranked 32nd).
