Baseball Recap: Walsingham Academy Wins High-Profile Contest Against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy

Walsingham Academy faced Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. Walsingham Academy had just enough and edged out Nansemond-Suffolk Academy 3-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Trojans also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Daniel Guntherberg was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anthony Ferrie, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

Walsingham Academy now has a winning record of 4-3-1. As for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Walsingham Academy will host Norfolk Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Greenbrier Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
