Baseball Game Preview: Spotsylvania Knights vs. Courtland Cougars

Spotsylvania is 1-9 against Courtland since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Knights will square off against the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Spotsylvania will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

While Spotsylvania's win against Massaponax wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Knights never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Monday. Those two runs were actually the fewest the Knights have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Massaponax's batters probably weren't too happy with Jay Siefker, who pitched a no hitter and racked up ten Ks (he gave up four walks).

On the hitting side, Spotsylvania saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Perez, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Jake Herbst also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Courtland's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 7-3 to Eastern View.

Spotsylvania pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Courtland, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Spotsylvania skirted past Courtland 3-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
