Rivera had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Mercedes Tigers a 3-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-2 last Tuesday.

Not much got past Derrick Villarreal, who gave up just two hits to keep Mercedes off the board.

On the hitting side, Rivera's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Raul Reyes, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Rivera's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Mercedes, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.
