Baseball Recap: Cheney's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Cheney couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Collegiate Spartans on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Josh Burdick put in work no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Burdick wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Eastman, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Eastman is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Cheney moved to 20-6 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak. As for Collegiate, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-14.

As of now, neither Cheney nor the Spartans have any future games scheduled.
