Basketball Preview: Stone Mountain Pirates vs. Southwest DeKalb Panthers

Stone Mountain has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. Having just played yesterday, they will head out on the road to face off against the Southwest DeKalb Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Stone Mountain will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 456th, while the Panthers are ranked 80th).

On Friday, Stone Mountain came up short against the Wildcats and fell 49-38. Stone Mountain has not had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Despite the loss, Stone Mountain got a solid performance out of Makayla Wilson, who scored 28 points. That was a full 73.7% of Stone Mountain's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Shameon King was another key contributor, scoring ten points.

Meanwhile, Southwest DeKalb put the finishing touches on their 15th blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 61-10 victory over Hapeville Charter on the road. The win was nothing new for Southwest DeKalb as they're now sitting on six straight.

Stone Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Southwest DeKalb, they pushed their record up to 17-5 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Stone Mountain was taken down by the Panthers 77-31 in their previous matchup back in January. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Stone Mountain was down 39-8.
