Softball Game Preview: Hunter Wolverines vs. Kearns Cougars

For the second straight game, Hunter will face off against Kearns. The Wolverines will host the Cougars at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Hunter's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home while Kearns has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road.

Hunter is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with an 11-6 victory over Kearns.

LEILA AIONO made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, KENYA LAPUAHO was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 games. ALEXA OLSEN was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base.

Hunter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matchups.

Hunter's win bumped their record up to 18-9. As for Kearns, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-17.

Kearns' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hunter has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Kearns, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Hunter's sizable advantage in that area, the Cougars will need to find a way to close that gap.
