Softball Game Preview: Hixson Wildcats vs. South Pittsburg Pirates

The Hixson Wildcats will head out to challenge the South Pittsburg Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hixson has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 10th.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Hixson's offense. They fell 5-0 to Ooltewah on Wednesday.

Hixson saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brantley Bruggink, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, South Pittsburg came into Monday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They never let Grundy County get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Monday.

Not much got past Kaylee Kilgore, who gave up just a hit and racked up 18 Ks to keep Grundy County off the board. Kilgore has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

Hixson's loss dropped their record down to 12-16-1. As for South Pittsburg, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.

Everything went Hixson's way against South Pittsburg in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Hixson made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
