After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Marion Center, Portage was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They claimed a resounding 47-8 win over the Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays at home. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Portage to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bode Layo, who picked up 109 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. That's the most rushing yards Layo has posted since back in September of 2023. Another passer making a difference was Easton Slanoc, who threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Portage was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 490 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Conemaugh Valley only gained 280.

Conemaugh Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ethan Mcnulty, who rushed for 121 yards on only 11 carries. Mcnulty got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible 80 yards.

The win got Portage back to even at 1-1. As for Conemaugh Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Portage is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season. they challenge River Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Portage is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. As for Conemaugh Valley, they will host Northern Cambria at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
