Softball Recap: Rye Cove Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Rye Cove came tearing into Saturday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Thomas Walker Pioneers get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Kenzie Hood made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Rye Cove got a massive performance out of Morgan Edwards, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four RBI gave Edwards a new career-high. Jasmine Stanley was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.

Rye Cove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive games.

Rye Cove pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Thomas Walker, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rye Cove will challenge Twin Springs on Tuesday. As for Thomas Walker, they will face off against Castlewood at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
