Baseball Recap: Lincoln Drops Season-High Score on West

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lincoln). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the West Wolfpack a 16-0 shutout on Thursday. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Cooper Conklin looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brady Dobson, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Lincoln's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Brayden Glaser was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Lincoln always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Lincoln's sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for West, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-14-1 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lincoln will face off against Capistrano Valley at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for West, they will take on Antioch at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wolfpack are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
