Basketball Recap: Cole Thorson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Stanwood over Meadowdale

Stanwood was the 54-48 winner over Meadowdale when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Stanwood Spartans fell 61-49 to the Meadowdale Mavericks on Monday.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cole Thorson, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds Thorson has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Greyson Pierce, who scored nine points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Stanwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matches.

Stanwood has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. Meadowdale's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-11.

Stanwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Meadowdale, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-44 defeat against Ferndale on the 13th.
