Softball Recap: Mercy Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Mercy extended their winning streak to nine on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 9-1 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Grand Blanc Bobcats. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-1 on Saturday.

As for Grand Blanc, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-2. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs.

For Grand Blanc's part, Kayla Blumenschein was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Blumenschein has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Blumenschein wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ella Stevenson, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Mackenzie Jacobson also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Looking ahead, Mercy will challenge Lutheran North at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Marlins have won 22 straight at home dating back to last season, while the Mustangs won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Grand Blanc, they will face off against Bay City Western at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
