Baseball Preview: Cousino Patriots vs. Clawson Trojans
The Cousino Patriots will square off against the Clawson Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Cousino turned things around against Fitzgerald on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 18-8 win. The Patriots not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 21st (when they won 15-3).
Meanwhile, Clawson had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past the Dragons 13-3. Considering the Trojans have won 14 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Shane Dunlap was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last three games. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joey Campana, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
