Softball Game Preview: Howard Lions vs. Centennial Eagles

The Howard Lions will challenge the Centennial Eagles on Wednesday. Centennial took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Howard, who comes in off a win.

Howard took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over Marriotts Ridge. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Howard saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aila Claypool, who went 1-for-2 with two runs. Hadley Coleman was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Centennial suffered their closest defeat since May 2, 2025 on Thursday. They fell just short of Glenelg by a score of 5-3. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Centennial's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Howard, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.

Centennial's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Howard has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Centennial, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Howard's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.

Howard got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March of 2025 against Centennial by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
