Basketball Recap: Gage Park Comes Up Short

Gage Park was the 25-0 winner over Horizon Science Academy-Southwest when they last played one another back in January of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Gage Park Fighting Owls were dealt a 50-13 defeat at the hands of the Horizon Science Academy-Southwest Huskies on Wednesday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Horizon Science Academy-Southwest to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aislin Vazquez, who posted 16 points along with eight assists and three steals. Vazquez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Takyla Lang, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Gage Park's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Horizon Science Academy-Southwest, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-8.

Gage Park and Horizon Science Academy-Southwest's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Gage Park and Harlan (who has only given up 19.87 points per game) will meet at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Horizon Science Academy-Southwest will face off against ACERO Garcia at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, a squad that's only allowed 26.36 points per game.
