Basketball Game Preview: Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans vs. Williston-Elko Blue Devils

Ridge Spring-Monetta hasn't had much luck against Williston-Elko recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Both will round out the year against one another at at 1:00 p.m.

Ridge Spring-Monetta easily dispatched Blackville-Hilda on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Ridge Spring-Monetta fell just short of Saluda by a score of 37-34 on Wednesday. The game marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Despite the loss, Ridge Spring-Monetta had strong showings from Ny'Asia Young, who posted eight points and 23 boards, and Ruby Powell, who had six points and ten rebounds. Young is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least ten every time she's taken the court this season.

Even though they lost, Ridge Spring-Monetta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 31 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Williston-Elko hadn't done well against Allendale-Fairfax recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The stars were shining brightly for Williston-Elko in a 46-31 win over Allendale-Fairfax.

Williston-Elko's record is now 5-3. As for Ridge Spring-Monetta, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Ridge Spring-Monetta came up short against Williston-Elko in their previous meeting last Friday, falling 45-39. Can Ridge Spring-Monetta avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
