Basketball Game Preview: Athens Golden Eagles vs. Muscle Shoals Trojans

Athens is 1-9 against Muscle Shoals since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Athens Golden Eagles will head out to square off against the Muscle Shoals Trojans at 7:30 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Athens was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 55-51 to East Limestone.

Meanwhile, Muscle Shoals waltzed into their match on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They claimed a resounding 67-30 win over the Red Raiders. The Trojans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Muscle Shoals has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Athens, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-5.

Things could have been worse for Athens, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 65-49 loss to Muscle Shoals in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can Athens avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
