Football Recap: Chaparral Comes Up Short

If Chaparral was riding high fresh off their 45-21 takedown of Deer Valley last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The contest between the Firebirds and the Notre Dame Prep Saints didn't end well, with the Firebirds falling 42-24. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Firebirds of the 28-23 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2017.

Although Chaparral took the loss, they still got scores from Colton Coon, Daniel Morales, and Luke Lang.

Notre Dame Prep's receiving core played a big role in the win, headlined by Decker Haskins-Smith and Jace Wright. Haskins-Smith rushed for 167 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.0 yards per carry while Wright picked up 84 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Wright got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 80 yards.

Chaparral now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Notre Dame Prep, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-3.

Chaparral wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 16-6 defeat against Desert Mountain on the 17th. As for Notre Dame Prep, they have also already played their next game, a 56-27 loss against Cactus Shadows on the 17th.
