Basketball Recap: St. Augustine Catholic Wins Going Away Against Palo Verde

On Monday, the St. Augustine Catholic Wolves didn't have too much trouble with the Palo Verde Titans as they won 61-44. The Wolves pushed the score to 48-27 by the end of the third, a deficit the Titans cut but never quite recovered from.

St. Augustine Catholic had a senior duo take command as Megan Callahan posted 18 points along with seven assists and seven boards and Carolina Georgelos almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. Callahan is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Aliyah Preciado was another key player, putting up six points and nine rebounds.

St. Augustine Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Palo Verde lost, don't look at Gaby Oliver. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 42 points and 14 boards. That was a full 95.5% of Palo Verde's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

St. Augustine Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.5 points per game. As for Palo Verde, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

St. Augustine Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 41-35 victory against Lincoln Prep on the 13th. As for Palo Verde, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-37 win against Apache Junction on the 10th.
