Softball Recap: Hoover Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Montgomery, Hoover was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 27-25 victory over the Monte Vista Monarchs. With that win, the Cardinals brought their scoring average up to 12.6 runs per game.

Heather Perez was a standout: she scored seven runs and stole eight bases while going 6-for-7. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Tania Garibay was another key player, scoring six runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in seven of her eight plate appearances.

Hoover always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .833. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Hoover's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Monte Vista, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Hoover will head out to take on Southwest SD at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Southwest SD will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Hoover surely won't give up without a fight. As for Monte Vista, they will host San Diego at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
