Muskogee has gone a perfect 3-0 against Checotah recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Roughers will venture away from home to face off against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Muskogee has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Checotah will arrive with six straight victories.
Muskogee came up short against Stillwater on Tuesday, falling 14-3.
Owen Gilliam made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Chris Daniels, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Checotah hadn't done well against Eufaula recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Ironheads with a sharp 13-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Mason Rainbolt was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Checotah let Dalton Carter and Cale Thompson run wild. Carter went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs, while Thompson went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave Thompson a new career-high. Treagan DuVall was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Checotah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .651. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eufaula only posted an OBP of .444.
Checotah's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-16. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Muskogee, their loss dropped their record down to 10-19.
Muskogee took their victory against Checotah in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Roughers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
