Basketball Game Preview: River Forest Ingots vs. Whiting Oilers

The River Forest Ingots will face off against the Whiting Oilers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. River Forest has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.

River Forest is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Illiana Christian on Monday, sneaking past 57-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Ingots have posted since November 14, 2023.

Meanwhile, Whiting was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Hanover Central, falling 55-29. While losing is never fun, the Oilers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 326th, while the Wildcats are ranked 147th).

River Forest will need focus on slowing down Victoria Velez, one of several Whiting players who made an impact when they last played. She posted eight points and three steals.

Whiting's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for River Forest, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

River Forest ended up a good deal behind Whiting when the teams last played back in December of 2023, losing 52-33. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Velez, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten steals.
