Basketball Game Preview: Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains vs. Calvert Senecas

The Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains and the Calvert Senecas will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

On Monday, Hopewell-Loudon ended up a good deal behind Mohawk and lost 42-28. The loss was the Chieftains' first of the season.

Meanwhile, Calvert really took it to St. Joseph Central Catholic for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-34 win. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 49-11.

Hopewell-Loudon better focus on containing Gavin Wagner and Logan Ritzler as the pair were huge in Calvert's win. Wagner dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 boards, while Ritzler went 6 of 10 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds. Wagner's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Demoss, who posted seven points and five assists.

Calvert was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Hopewell-Loudon fell to 2-1. As for Calvert, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.

Hopewell-Loudon didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Calvert in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 45-41 victory. Does Hopewell-Loudon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Calvert turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
