Basketball Game Preview: New Smyrna Beach Barracudas vs. Deltona Wolves

The New Smyrna Beach Barracudas will challenge the Deltona Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with New Smyrna Beach sitting on three straight victories and Deltona on four.

New Smyrna Beach is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They claimed a resounding 76-47 win over Innovation. Given the Barracudas' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Bulls are ranked 652nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

New Smyrna Beach found their leader in sophomore Jd Fieser, who shot 5-for-9 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fieser has scored all season. Owen Mclaughlin was another key player, putting up seven points and eight rebounds.

New Smyrna Beach smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Deltona posted their closest victory since January 12, 2024 on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 60-58 win over Jones.

Deltona's victory bumped their record up to 8-16. As for New Smyrna Beach, they are also on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

New Smyrna Beach beat Deltona 93-86 when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will New Smyrna Beach repeat their success, or does Deltona have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
