Basketball Preview: Girard College Cavaliers vs. Kohelet Yeshiva

The Girard College Cavaliers will head out on the road to challenge Kohelet Yeshiva at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Girard College had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Wolves by a score of 51-44. Given Girard College's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 310th in Pennsylvania, while the Wolves are ranked 691st in New Jersey), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Antoine Seals, who scored 27 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brasen Avent, who scored two points along with 20 rebounds and five steals.

Meanwhile, Kohelet Yeshiva had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They took down Community Academy of Philadelphia 74-56. The final score was a far cry from the score of their previous head-to-head, which saw the teams combine for two points.

Asher Kahlon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 31 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Kohelet Yeshiva's points. Another player making a difference was Daniel Benjamini, who scored 17 points.

Girard College pushed their record up to 10-11 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Kohelet Yeshiva, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Girard College skirted past the 67-64 when the teams last played two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for Girard College since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
