Basketball Game Preview: Mar Vista Mariners vs. Bonita Vista Barons

The Mar Vista Mariners will venture away from home to face off against the Bonita Vista Barons at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mar Vista is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Southwest SD on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Mar Vista was beaten by Southwest SD 91-45. The Mariners were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-21.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bonita Vista). They blew past San Ysidro 86-45 on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Barons as they're now sitting on seven straight.

Bonita Vista's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.7 points over those games. As for Mar Vista, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.

Mar Vista might still be hurting after the 84-61 loss they got from Bonita Vista when the teams last played two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Bonita Vista's Aaron Owens, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 12 boards.
